Our Direction
“MAKING DISCIPLES WHO MAKE A DIFFERENCE”
We believe we are called to be disciples who make disciples wherever we go, immersing them into all God is and training them to walk in all His ways. (Matthew 28:18-20). Toward this end we seek to grow in relationship with the Trinity, the Body of Christ and the Communities in which we live. We call this believing, belonging and becoming.
Our Road
The journey of believing.
God calls us to give ourselves to Him completely—heart, soul, mind and strength (Mark 12:30; Luke 10:27). So we seek God with, and offer to Him, every aspect of who we are.
The journey of belonging.
The early Christians single-mindedly practiced four things: learning sound doctrine, participating in one another’s lives, remembering the work of Christ, and praying in all kinds of ways (Acts 2:42). So, when we gather together, we seek to cultivate the four spiritual habits of Bible study, fellowship, worship and prayer.
The Journey of becoming.
When Jesus was a young adult He grew intellectually, physically, spiritually and socially (Luke 2:52). So we seek to maintain a healthy, balanced life by taking steps forward in all four of these areas.
As we follow Jesus in this way—believing, belonging and becoming—the difference He makes in us will prepare us to make a difference in our world.
Our Map
The Journey is relational.
We believe the Christian life should be lived out in relationship with Christ and His Church, for the glory of God and the good of humankind. Our relationship with God should be humble. Our relationships with each other should be encouraging. Our relationships with others should be redeeming.
The Journey is rational.
We believe we can know and should seek to understand truth through revelation and reason. God has revealed Himself through His creation so that we are aware of Him as our creator and the moral lawgiver to whom we are accountable. He has also revealed Himself through the Bible, in which the main character is the Lord Jesus Christ and the main plot is His redemption of humankind and His coming kingdom. Christ is the source of all reason; so, knowledge of Him is the foundation for understanding all other knowledge and wisdom, whether scientific, ethical, political, or otherwise.
The Journey is moral.
We believe those convinced of the truth of Scripture, who trust Christ for forgiveness, will continually strive to be holy and rid themselves of sinful habits. Not in our own strength, but by the power of the Holy Spirit, we struggle against our sinful inclinations, as well as resist the temptations of this world and the schemes of demons.
The Journey is powerful.
We believe we can experience the presence and power of the Living God as we seek and serve Him. We expect God to draw near as we worship Him. And we desire to be empowered by the Spirit to serve one another and build His Church. However, we acknowledge that the Holy Spirit is a person who does not respond to His people mechanically, but mysteriously.
Our Drivers
The Journey is hands-on! We encourage everyone to first partake in the blessings of our community and then partner with us in ministry.
We believe God has gifted each of us with unique potential, personalities, perspectives and passions to build His Church and further His kingdom in the world. So we want to help everyone who regularly participates in the Journey find a place to serve in our ministry, in another ministry of Centerpoint Church, or somewhere in the community.
We recognize that not everyone is at the same level of spiritual maturity. For this reason, we ask only those who have been a faithful part of our fellowship for three months or more to consider whether or not they are ready to serve.
